5-Day Serengeti Great Migration & Ngorongoro Safari

Your safari begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route before descending approximately 600 metres into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive.

Known as “Africa’s Eden,” the crater is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest and the endangered black rhino. Explore its diverse landscapes of grasslands, woodlands and wetlands while enjoying breathtaking views of this unique ecosystem.

In the late afternoon, ascend to the crater rim and transfer to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay in the beautiful Ngorongoro Crater.

After breakfast, depart from your lodge in Ngorongoro and drive toward the magnificent Serengeti National Park, enjoying scenic views along the way. Upon arrival, begin a game drive through the Central Serengeti, exploring its vast plains in search of the Great Migration, depending on the season and location of the herds.

The Serengeti is renowned for its abundant wildlife, including the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos. The Seronera region is particularly famous for lion sightings and offers excellent opportunities to spot leopards resting in trees, elephants roaming the plains and other fascinating wildlife.

After an exciting day of wildlife viewing, head to your camp or lodge for dinner and an overnight stay in the Serengeti.

After breakfast at camp, depart with a packed picnic lunch for a full day of game drives in the Northern Serengeti, particularly the Wagakuria area. This region is known for its abundant resident wildlife, including large prides of lions, elephants, leopards and other fascinating species.

From August to October, the area can offer exceptional opportunities to witness the Great Migration as vast herds of wildebeest and zebras move toward the Mara River. You may explore the riverbanks in search of dramatic crossings, where animals brave crocodile-filled waters. However, river crossings are unpredictable and sightings depend on the herds’ movements and natural conditions.

After a rewarding day exploring the northern plains, return to camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day of game drives in the Northern Serengeti around the Mara River, searching for the spectacular Great Migration. During the migration season, particularly from August to October, vast herds of wildebeest and zebras gather in the area, sometimes attempting dramatic river crossings as they move in search of fresh grazing.

Explore the riverbanks and surrounding plains while looking for wildlife, including crocodiles, lions, elephants and other predators that follow the herds. River crossings are unpredictable, however, and sightings depend on the animals’ movements and weather conditions.

In the evening, return to camp to relax around the bonfire before dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive in the Northern Serengeti, exploring the plains and rocky outcrops around Kogatende. Look out for wildebeest herds, zebras and the predators that follow them as you make the most of your last hours in this remarkable wilderness.

Later, transfer to Kogatende Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Arusha. Upon arrival, connect with your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight, bringing your five-day Tanzania safari to an end
